Night at Play
First of many Garden Parties?
Summer is here and we hope you are enjoying the outdoors at last! On Thursday the 8th of June we spent a very pleasant afternoon at a Garden Party given in aid of Orphans Know More.
There was a lot of interest from the 40+ guests and many were able to see our 5 minute promotional video, whilst enjoying a cup of tea with homemade scones and jam. Special thanks to Sheila and John (more…)
Coffee and Art Afternoon!
There will be a coffee afternoon at the Highfield Oval Factory on June 3rd between 3pm and 5:30pm. All are welcome. We will be displaying and selling artwork created by the Ugandan children involved in Orphans Know More on our recent trip. 100% of proceeds will go back to those same children. We’ll look forward to seeing you!
Catch up on the Carnival!
Candy floss, gymnastic displays, stunt bikers, stuffed toys, everything that makes the Harpenden Carnival special, all together under a canopy of black cloud and torrential rain!! The Orphans Know More team, armed with umbrellas, still had a fantastic day fundraising for the orphans we support in Uganda raising a total of £330. It wasn’t hard to miss the OKM stall (see photos), with slip-sliding in the mud trying to “beat the goalie”, happy lucky dippers, quiz kids learning about HIV/AIDS and everyone who pulled a pound from their pockets for the generous raffle prizes donated by local Harpenden businesses. So who did win the prizes?
Three Cheers for the Chicken Challenge!
Here at the Orphans Know More office we’re celebrating the successful completion of the Chicken Challenge! It all began on March 1st, 2006 with the initial target of 700 chickens. Not just any chickens, but egg laying hens that would enable our families in Uganda to set up small income generating poultry farms. Only 61 days later, you all can take a well deserved pat on the back for your incredible response and generosity. Together we have raised donations for 3121 chickens!! Please check back soon for stories on how these projects are progressing in Uganda. Thank you again for your incredible support!
Cups of Coffee and Buckets of Generosity!
Fundraiser, Paula Blackwell, hosted a coffee morning with a difference! From the front door, with it’s yellow “chicken” balloons, through rooms decorated with egg trees, daffodils, chicks and all things Easter, friends were welcomed to enjoy cake and coffee and hear about Orphans Know More. With a raffle thrown in, an amazing £344 was raised for the Chicken Challenge. A massive thank-you to Paula and all her friends who came and gave, and those that couldn’t come but gave aswell. To see some photos of the morning, please see our Photo Gallery.
Sir John Lawes school makes the effort!
Sir John Lawes secondary school opened their doors to something new this week. The word of the week was “effort” and OKM staff were invited to present opportunities to get involved. Students were eager to respond to the Chicken Challenge, offering creative ideas to support families caring for orphans in Uganda. Many students were interested in volunteering as they learned that a little effort can make a huge difference. Thank you to staff and students at the school. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with you!
