CHILDREN OF AFRICA is an open-air charity concert and ‘Picnic in the Park’ being held in the amazing setting of Highfield Oval, Ambrose Lane, Harpenden on Saturday 28th August 2010, 4 -10pm. Six hours of music featuring an eclectic mix of Rock, Jazz, Blues and Gospel means there is something for everyone to enjoy. As well as the music there are activities for children, making this a fun day out for all the family. Bring a picnic and experience Harpenden’s first ever one day music festival.

The programme begins at 4pm with PROMISE, a 50 strong children’s choir providing a celebration of exhilarating Gospel music. THE PHIL BURRELL QUINTET has been formed especially for the event and promises some cool Jazz sounds for a summer evening. ALEX MILES has performed all over the UK and into Europe with her original interpretation of classic songs from Kylie to David Gray. EVERGREEN, by contrast, are a local rock band who will be playing some of their own compositions. MIDLIFE CRISIS are bound to strike a chord with fans of the Stones, Van Morrison and Dr Feelgood, playing their good-time rhythm and blues. Dad Rock comes to Harpenden! Local stars, the SWANVESTA SOCIAL CLUB from the Latin quarter of…..St Albans, are going down a storm wherever they play, with their intoxicating blend of Latin and Cuban rhythms. Special guest, the legendary JOHN OTWAY needs no introduction to music fans. His unique lyrics and electrifying live performances have firmly established him as part of Rock’s aristocracy. His new autobiography ‘I did it Otway’ tells it all. An unmissable experience from a wizard, a true star!
