Give A Little Egg-ucation

IMG_0341.jpgHarshly treated by a drunken father, with no mother to care for him, David fell into bad company and was living on the streets when our OKM family first connected with him. Only 11 years old at the time and already getting on the wrong side of the law, this Ugandan family were eager to draw David in and show him he was loved and special.  Such a contrast to the message he had had from his broken family and the village community who had chased him away! Probation officers, aware of the family’s interest in David, urged them to legally foster him.

Now 16 years old, (more…)

The Gift Menu

Gift_Menu2.jpgIt’s Uncle Mark’s 55th birthday.  Hmmmm ???? Shall I get him new socks, a novelty tie or an annual subscription for Readers Digest.  It’s always so hard to buy gifts for him.

Doug and Ruby are celebrating their 25th anniversary.  They have everything they need.  They always say not to worry about getting them gifts.  But I’d like to mark the occasion with something special.

Why not give a gift that can really make a difference?

Whether buying for family or friends, this creative way of gift-giving means that your donation helps bring hope to children whose lives have been marked by difficulties and loss.

To request Gift Menus please email us at orphans@oval.com and state how many copies of the Gift Menus you would like (eg 1, 5, 25, 100).  If you do not need the accompanying OKM newsletter please indicate this in your email.

Click here to download The Gift Menu file in .pdf format.

Thank you for your support of Orphans Know More.

Homes With Habitat

Building_Materials.JPGThe daily struggle to feed children, clothe them, pay for their schooling and necessary medical treatment can be overwhelming for those affected by AIDS. When you live in a leaking, overcrowded mud hut as well, hopelessness can lead to giving up. We met families on the edge of despair. What a difference a simple, well constructed home can make, a life or death difference for some families in Uganda.

OKM is excited to announce a partnership with Habitat for Humanity (more…)

Why No Chicken Challenge in 2008?!!

IMG_6372.JPGWe are sorry to disappoint those of you who have been so creative and committed to raising money for chickens and income generating projects in the last two years.  The good news is the hens given are laying and eggs are being sold.  Our Canadian agriculturalist, working with OKM in Uganda, has said it would still be great to have a few more hens this year.  But we’re not talking hundreds!

So what are the other challenges? We want to distribute improved seed (more…)

Working to give orphans a Face, a Family, and a Future

DSC02031.JPGOrphans Know More supports African families we know personally who have adopted orphans. Our pilot partnership is with Ugandan families who, 13 years ago, began responding to the needs of those infected and affected by HIV and AIDS.

Training community health workers and counselors brought them face to face with dying parents. “The heart cry of these parents is: ‘Who will look after my children when I am gone?’”
